Checking the Hardware Settings

The following describes how to check the settings such as the presence of the autosampler and the types of the nebulizer, and lens.

If you have changed peripheral devices, change the hardware settings accordingly. For more information on changing the settings, refer to the [Settings] dialog box.

Use the following procedure to check the hardware settings.

You cannot configure the hardware settings while other tasks are executing, so end all other tasks first.

1. Click [Settings] from the [Settings] group on the [Tools] tab.

   The [Settings] dialog box appears.

2. Click [System].

3. During initial setup, click at the side of [Hardware], and then click [Mainframe].

4. During initial setup, click [Edit] from "Communication".

    

   The [Set Communication] dialog box appears.

    

5. (Default) After checking all items, click the [OK] button.

   If you find anything wrong in the settings, correct the settings.

   • [ICP-MS]

     Make sure that the instrument is [Online] and that the host name or IP address of the instrument is correctly entered in [Host Name] or [IP Address].

 

When the ICP-MS is Online, data can be transferred between MassHunter Workstation and the instrument via the LAN. In this mode, you use MassHunter Workstation to control the operation, tuning, and data analysis. When the ICP-MS is Offline, MassHunter Workstation is used alone without transferring data between MassHunter Workstation and the instrument.

 

6. Check the settings for the peripheral equipment that are displayed in the [System] category of the [Settings] dialog box.

   Click at the side of [Hardware] to change the settings if necessary.

   • Sample Introduction

     When using an autosampler, select [Use Autosampler], and then click [Edit].

     In the [Configure Autosampler] dialog box, set the autosampler, and then click [OK].

     Sample Introduction: Displays the type of sample introduction.

     Nebulizer: Displays the nebulizer type.

   • Plasma

     Ignition Mode: Displays the ignition mode.

   • Ion Lenses

     Model: Displays the model of the Ion lens.

 

The term "ALS" has been changed to "Autosampler" in MassHunter 4.4.

 

7. When using optional functions, check the settings for the optional functions in the [Options] category of the [Settings] dialog box .

   Click at the side of [Selected Options] to change the settings if necessary.

   

   

   

   

   

   

 

If the output method is displayed in the [Reporting] category, the acquisition method, QC method, DA method, and custom report can be automatically stored in PDF format. The DA method report also includes the QC method report.
