Connecting Data to a Template

If Report Designer is opened in your host application, a new template is automatically opened. Report Designer uses the currently opened data to populate the Design Canvas data objects. This allows you to skip this step and begin laying out data objects on the Canvas.

Real data is used to lay out the report. Once the report is saved, you can then apply the report to any data of the same type to print your results.

To connect data to your template:

  1. Click Add New Data on the left pane inside the Design Toolbox. A browser window opens.
  2. Navigate to your data, select the appropriate file and then click Open.

The Design Toolbox will now display the data name along with the objects from that data that can be used on the report template.
